Hector Frederik Estrup Jungersen (1854-1917)

Professor of zoology 1899-1917, MA zoology 1877, DSc 1889, university and high school teacher 1879-99, lecturer at the Polytechnical College 1886-1901, president of the Danish Natural History Society 1899-1917, rector of the university 1912-13, specialist in marine zoology.   

Hector Jungersen was inspired by the Jena school of evolutionary comparative morphology, and he was one of the first university teachers to base his lectures on evolutionary principles. In 1909 Jungersen participated in the centennial celebrations of Charles Darwin in Copenhagen and in Cambridge.
