Frederik Vilhelm Møller (1846-1904)

Literary critic and editor, studied law, social science and literature in the 1860s, titular professor 1896.

From 1870 to 1874 Vilhelm Møller edited the highbrow radical journal Nyt Dansk Maanedsskrift [New Danish Monthly] which quickly became the mouthpiece for a circle of young writers inspired by Georg Brandes. In the journal he published seven articles on natural history and Darwinism and the novel Mogens by his friend J.P. Jacobsen, who translated Charles Darwin’s Origin of Species and Descent of Man into Danish during this time. In 1893, Møller issued Darwin, hans Liv og hans Lære [Darwin, his Life and his Work] (Copenhagen: Gyldendal, 1893) which was a collection of Jacobsen’s articles on Darwinism supplemented with his own introduction to Darwin’s life.
